Project Details
Owner: Aspirus Health Care
Location: Wisconsin
Completion Date: Ongoing
Services: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection
This project renovated large portions of the second and third floor of the corporate office building. JDR Engineering provided construction administration, closeout, and record drawing services for plumbing, HVAC, and electrical disciplines. JDR Engineering did not provide any design services for this project as they were provided by a separate consultant. Services provided for the project included: on-site verification that installations were completed in accordance with the contract documents and applicable codes, participation in construction meetings, responding to contractor questions and requests for information, reviewing test and balance reports, and ultimately filing a project compliance statement with the State. Additionally, JDR Engineering completed record drawings for the project, in electronic format, based on contractor provided as-built drawings, test and balance reports in observed installations.
JDR Engineering provided full engineering design services for clinic fit-out in the unfished space on the third floor of the existing Weston Clinic building. The clinic-fit consists of renovating 16,500 square feet to provide additional healthcare services, including multiple clinic pods, procedure rooms, and laboratory services. The finished areas of the building remained occupied during construction and field verification and coordination were vital to limit the disturbance to the rest of the clinic. The electrical design engineering scope for the clinic fit-out included power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm throughout the renovated area. Site lighting services were also provided for the parking lot addition. The plumbing design engineering scope for the clinic fit-out included new water distribution, and sanitary and vent piping extended and connected to the existing infrastructure. HVAC design engineering scope for the clinic fit-out included new duct and hot water distribution from the existing facilities’ variable air volume air handling system. JDR worked in conjunction with an HVAC Contractor that was performing HVAC system upgrades to the central air handling system.
JDR Engineering provided full engineering design services for the new Aspirus East Side Clinic building. The three-story, 36,000 square foot clinic provides a range of healthcare services, including a walk-in clinic, family practice, imaging, including medical imaging x-ray and CT scan, and laboratory services. The building is designed to allow flexibility for future changes to the program needs of the clinic. The project’s aggressive energy performance goals will meet a minimum Energy Star certification score of 75 and meet all the required provisions in the Wisconsin State Energy Code. The project participated in the Focus on Energy Design Assistance Program and the team performed all required obligations as required by Focus on Energy.
This project is being designed with energy efficiency as one of the primary focus points.
- HVAC includes the design of a geothermal, water source heat pump system with a dedicated outside air system equipped with energy recovery.
- Plumbing design includes primary water heating connected to a water-to-water heat pump tied to the geothermal loop.
- Electrical includes LED lighting design and a photovoltaic array.
- Investigating the use of battery storage connected to the PV array for emergency power needs. The PV array installed will convert the available sunlight into DC electricity, and the DC electricity will be stored in an array of DC batteries. The DC electricity will run through an inverter to convert the electricity to AC. The AC power will then run to a meter that ties into a transfer switch feeding a dedicated panel with equipment needing emergency backup. This dedicated panel will also have a utility meter to sell any unused electricity back to the utility grid.
